Chocolate Carmel Bars

This bar is my go to. Need something for a party? Got a sweet tooth? Kids need a last minute treat for their zoom schooling (just an excuse to make them)?

For reals though, these are so simple to make. Everyone always fawns over them when I make them. Now they are not Weight Watchers friendly, Keto, or low fat. But boy to they taste good. And there is only 5 ingredients!!

Heat that oven up to 350°F. Start by mixing the German Chocolate Cake mix with 1/3 cup of Evaporated Milk and 1 1/2 sticks (or 3/4 cup). Mix that together until is becomes pasty. In a 9 x 13 pan, patting it down or using an small offset spatula spread 1/2 of the mixture to cover the bottom of the pan. Don't worry, I know it looks really thin, but its okay. Bake for 6 minutes.

While the "brownie" is baking, in a microwave safe bowl, dump in the caramel bits (you can use the ones that you have to unwrap if you have that much extra time on your hands) with 1/3 cup Evaporated Milk. Place it in the microwave and in 1 minute intervals, check and stir the mixture until its caramel lump free. Crap, the time is going off.

Once the 6 minute bake is done, pull out the pan and place on a safe, hot surface proof space. Sprinkle the "brownie" with 6 oz. or 1/2 bag of semi sweet chocolate chips. Next pour the caramel on top of the chocolate. I use the off set spatula again to to spread the caramel evenly.

Using the remaining batter, place small pieces covering most of the top. Now I used to do this by hand and then one day, I had an idea. Use a small cookie scoop to place the batter on top of the caramel. Works perfectly!

Bake for 15 additional minutes and then remove from the oven. Let it cool completely before cutting, even though the temptation is real. Now there is a small dilemma. There are only 4 corner pieces, so you're going to want to cut this up when no one is around and hide them. They are the perfect mix of caramel, chocolate, soft and crunchy all in one piece. My FAVORITE!

I guess I lied, there is another dilemma. Wait I guess its more of a debate. Is it Carmel or Caramel? Either way, I would eat it.
